The cathedral, treasury and cloister offer outstanding cultural and historical experiences as well as moving religious encounters. In 90 minutes you will experience highlights of European art history. The cathedral was built by the canonized imperial couple Heinrich and Kunigunde in the early 11th century, burned down several times, and was rebuilt a second time between 1200 and 1237. The architecture impresses with its clear form language. The famous and nameless Bamberg Rider and the sculptures of the cathedral are unmatched in Germany: the French influences are unmistakable! None other than Tilman Riemenschneider created the imperial tomb, and Veit Stoß carved the Marian altar. Through the Gothic cloister, you enter the diocesan museum, which is equipped with high-quality sculptures. The world's most important textiles, such as the star mantle preserved from the 11th century – a masterpiece of medieval textile art, the preserved vestments of Pope Clement II, as well as the largest preserved Ottonian cross are the highlights of our museum. Cathedral. Treasure. Cloister – Exciting. Inspiring. Experienceable.
