Romantic Magical World on the Puppet Stage

A misstep, two mysterious blue eyes, and a love between bourgeois order and poetic transformation: E.T.A. Hoffmann's The Golden Pot reveals its fairy-tale power on October 23, 2026, at the Bamberg Puppet Theater.

Anselmus between Everyday Life and Poetry

The young student Anselmus struggles with the expectations of the bourgeois world. After pondering his misfortune under a elder tree without resources, he encounters Serpentina and becomes involved in a fascinating love triangle with the bourgeois Veronika. Archivarius Lindhorst opens the door to a world where imagination, language, and life design intertwine.

Hoffmann's Romantic Fairy Tale as Puppet Theater

The art fairy tale created in 1814 appears in a lightly adapted stage version by Marta Famula. The production transfers Hoffmann's romantic dramaturgy for the first time to a puppet stage, combining acting, puppetry, and poetic imagery into a unique theatrical experience.

Light, Puppets, and Theatrical Atmosphere

The puppets give the story their own magic: Movements become signs, spaces transform in the play of perspectives, and the acoustics of the historic theater carry Hoffmann's transitions between everyday life and fantasy. In the concentrated theater atmosphere of the listed Staubschen House, a sensual set design arises, constantly shifting the boundary between the visible world and inner imagination.

An Evening for Young and Adult Theater Enthusiasts

The performance lasts 120 minutes including a 15-minute intermission and is aimed at visitors aged 10 years and older. The audience's reaction thrives on the special closeness of the puppet theater: Every movement carries weight, and every glance becomes a dramatic impulse.

Conclusion: Poetry Within Reach

The Golden Pot promises a theater evening between romantic fairy tale, fine acting, and visual transformation. Those who wish to experience Hoffmann's poetic world live will find in Bamberg a production that directly connects literary history and puppet art.
