Sleeping Beauty: A Fairytale Puppet Show in Bamberg

As the curtain rises, a journey begins deep into the world of the Brothers Grimm. The Bamberg Puppet Theatre presents Marec Béla Steffen's fairytale play Sleeping Beauty directed by Maria Sebald. The performance combines artistic puppet handling, historical spaces, and a fairytale-like dramaturgy into a special stage experience for the whole family.

A Princess, thirteen Fairies, and a Fateful Curse

At the center is the baptism of a king's daughter, to which twelve fairies are invited. Because there is no golden plate for the thirteenth fairy, the celebration turns into a moment of threat: the uninvited fairy casts a curse and determines that the princess should prick herself on a spindle. The king tries with all his might to change fate – but fairytales have their own laws.

Puppet Art Meets Bamberg Architecture

The production unfolds its special charm through the change of locations. The fairytale begins in the Bamberg Puppet Theatre, leads through the rooms of the New Residence and the court, and finds its conciliatory happy ending in the rose garden. The stage design, character handling, and historical atmosphere intertwine like the threads of an artistically manipulated puppet.

Dramaturgy for Children and Adults

With a runtime of about 60 minutes and no intermission, Sleeping Beauty is particularly suitable for children aged five and older. The clear narrative structure makes the Grimm classic easily accessible, while the detailed acting artistry of the puppet theatre also appeals to adult fairytale lovers. Amidst tension, humor, and poetic images, a theatrical atmosphere arises that draws young spectators immediately into the action.

A Family Trip with a Fairytale Echo

The audience's reaction thrives on the closeness to the stage and the peculiar magic of puppet theatre. Every movement carries weight, and every glance of the puppets becomes a dramaturgical sign. Thus, the well-known story transforms into a sensual stage experience that connects the magic of Bamberg with the world of fairytales.

Conclusion: Experience Fairytale Magic Live

Sleeping Beauty promises an entertaining, imaginative performance with puppets, historical locations, and a lovingly crafted production.
