Bamberger Symphoniker - Public Conducting Competition

Since 2004, THE MAHLER COMPETITION has been one of the most prestigious competitions for young conductors worldwide. Each time, we receive over 500 applications from all over the world, with only a maximum of 24 selected talents invited to Bamberg – for intensive working phases with the Bamberger Symphoniker under professional conditions, as few other competitions offer. All rounds of the competition, including the finals, are public and provide fascinating insights into the work at the conductor's desk. In the two-day final, the three remaining candidates each have two and a half hours of rehearsal time with the orchestra – an extraordinary format that makes depth and development audible. In the final concert on July 3, they conduct the same program again in front of an audience and a jury. Afterwards, the audience votes online, the jury retreats for deliberation – and at the end of the evening, the winners are announced, who now have the doors to an international career open to them.
