Bamberg becomes the grand sound space of the Bavarian choir scene

On November 8, 2026, the 12th Bavarian Choir Competition transforms the Bamberg Concert and Congress Hall into a meeting point for voices, timbres, and musical encounters. Nearly 50 ensembles from all over Bavaria bring together around 1,500 singers and present the impressive range of modern and traditional choral music.

Choral music in all its diversity

On stage, programs from children's, youth, school, and church choirs resonate as well as contributions from chamber and concert choirs. About 20 pop choirs expand the spectrum with contemporary arrangements, rhythmic precision, and multifaceted stage performance. This creates a musical panorama that connects different generations, styles, and sound ideals.

Competition singing with tension and precision

The ensembles present themselves to a panel of experts and showcase works they have prepared over many months. Conducting, intonation, articulation, orchestration, and the synchronization of voices become crucial building blocks of an intense concert experience. For the audience, this opens a direct insight into the concentrated work of ambitious amateur choirs.

Free switching between the competition sings

Visitors can freely switch between the competition sings, thereby experiencing different choir categories in one weekend. Sometimes a homogeneous chamber choir sound fills the hall, sometimes large concert choirs create a powerful sound volume, before a pop choir brings new energy to the live atmosphere with modern vocal music.

An important forum for Bavaria's choirs

The competition, organized by the Bavarian Music Council, is considered a central forum for choral music in the Free State. Besides the performance comparison, meeting, professional exchange, and the artistic development of the ensembles are at the center. At the same time, the competition serves as a qualification round for the German Choir Competition 2027 in Leipzig.

Conclusion: A weekend for all who love voices

The 12th Bavarian Choir Competition combines musical excellence, closeness to the audience, and the special tension of a competition sing.
