Many offerings start continuously within the semester, while others are compact workshops on weekends. The course pages transparently display course locations, times, fees, and remaining spots; common course locations in the building are seminar room 1 or 2, the computer room on the top floor, and the cooking studio. Conveniently, the online registration is intuitively designed, courses can be filtered, and for many formats, there are digital alternatives via vhs.cloud. For language enthusiasts, there are additional services that go beyond the actual course. Exchange formats such as the language café at Lesecafé21 regularly invite you to speak and network. This way, you can overcome inhibitions and gain confidence for everyday life, studies, or work. The range of events reflects the VHS Bayreuth's commitment to making education accessible to all: from the first introduction to digital tools to professional development, from health courses for beginners to demanding workshops in art and design. If you are looking for an individual learning path, you can combine in-person and online elements and use additional materials, groups, and communication via vhs.cloud. This makes course planning easy even if you have irregular working hours or commute between home, workplace, and family.

Directions and Parking at RW21

Getting to VHS Bayreuth is comfortably arranged thanks to the location of RW21 at Richard-Wagner-Straße 21. If you come by bus, the nearest stops are Sternplatz, Opernhaus, and Wahnfried. From all three stops, it is only a few minutes on foot to the entrance of RW21. Additionally, the Oberfrankenhalle stop is a good hub: from there, signposted paths lead towards the city center, and the lines operate at practical intervals. The city library lists the connections in detail: for example, lines 304, 316, and 326 go to Oberfrankenhalle, lines 302 and 307 go to Wahnfried, and line 314 serves Sternplatz every 20 minutes; in the evenings and on Sundays, a connecting line covers part of the route. If you ride a bicycle, you will find parking spaces directly in front of RW21. This is ideal if you want to quickly get into the city or attend courses in the late afternoon. If you come by car, you have several parking options. The parking garages Badstraße P7 and Tiefgarage Sternplatz P8 are particularly close. A bit further but easily accessible is the parking garage Oberfrankenhalle P1 at Sportpark 5; additionally, there is the parking lot Stadthalle P6 at Geißmarkt 8. The VHS itself points out that paid parking spaces can be found around RW21 and that there are also free parking options at the Volksfest parking lot and in the city center area; from there, you can expect about a ten-minute walk to the building. This short walk takes you through the city center and is often the least stressful solution before a course, especially during peak times. For a quick stop to drop off and pick up, it is also worth looking at the designated short-term parking areas in the adjacent streets. By the way: The city library is closed on Mondays; if you need to go to the VHS on that day, please use the rear entrance of RW21, as explicitly communicated by the VHS. This way, you avoid unnecessary detours. Thanks to the central location, RW21 can also be easily integrated into longer city routes, whether you take a break at Lesecafé21 beforehand or run errands in the city center afterward. Overall, depending on the time of day, you can flexibly choose between bus, bicycle, and car and find a reliable, time-saving route for every journey.

The municipal overview of parking in the city center confirms that Bayreuth maintains a dense network of parking spaces near the city, including the mentioned parking garages. In practice, it has proven beneficial to arrive early, especially during well-booked course times, and to switch to the free spaces at the Volksfest parking lot if necessary. If you plan longer course days, it is also worthwhile to check the maximum allowed parking duration in the respective parking garages. For the combination of bus and car, lines with short intervals are available; the central bus station of the city offers additional transfer options. This way, you remain independent and can start your course without searching for parking or tight connection times.

Online Learning with vhs.cloud and vhs Learning Portal

The VHS Bayreuth complements in-person offerings in RW21 with powerful digital learning environments. The vhs.cloud is the nationwide platform of the adult education centers and is used for online courses, learning materials, and exchange in course groups. It relies on server locations in Germany and is designed with high data protection standards. Registration is simple: as a course participant, you create an account, join the course room with your course code, and are activated by the course leader. After logging in, you will find the area My Courses on your digital desktop; there you will find materials, dates, messages, and collaborative functions such as groups, forums, or files. The VHS Bayreuth provides understandable explanatory videos and step-by-step instructions, ensuring a smooth start. It is important to complete the registration a few days before the course begins so that everything can be activated in the background and you have timely access to documents.

Some online offerings are also realized via Zoom. The VHS provides clear instructions for participation to ensure stable audio and video and to consider data protection aspects. Course leaders often combine vhs.cloud and Zoom: the video conference takes place in Zoom while materials, tasks, and communication are in the course room of vhs.cloud. For self-learners or as a supplement to the course, the vhs learning portal is also recommended. It is free to use and offers structured online courses and exercises, including for German as a second language and basic education. In the registration process, it is important not to use an internal vhs.cloud email address, as this only works within vhs.cloud. The vhs learning portal is suitable for building vocabulary, training grammar, and staying engaged with interactive exercises; teachers can view progress and provide feedback on tasks, making it a meaningful complement to in-person and online teaching. Together with the stable infrastructure in RW21, this creates a flexible learning mix: you benefit from personal exchange in the seminar room while also using digital tools when you are on the go, have shifts, or want to review at home. For many courses in the areas of languages, profession, and digital skills, this blended learning approach is already practiced and demonstrably increases commitment in the learning process.

Rooms and Equipment in RW21

RW21 is designed as a modern house of lifelong learning and offers an infrastructure optimized for educational work. Within the VHS, several fixed course and seminar rooms are available, which you will repeatedly find as course locations on the course pages, such as seminar room 1 and seminar room 2. For digital education, there is a computer room on the top floor, which is used for events related to smartphones, tablets, and computers. Culinary offerings take place in the cooking studio; there, workstations, equipment, and safety features are designed for course operation, so that even beginners can work safely and efficiently. For relaxation and movement, the house offers rooms that are equipped for yoga, fascia training, or similar formats. The offering is complemented by open learning and working areas of the city library and Lesecafé21 on the ground floor, which invites exchange and breaks. This proximity of learning spaces, media offerings, and meeting points ensures short distances and a lively learning atmosphere.

The municipal overview of RW21 describes the dimensions of the building with around 4,000 square meters over five floors. This area is jointly used by the city library and the adult education center, creating synergies in operations and program design. For visitors, this means: spacious lobbies, clearly marked paths, elevators, and barrier-free access. Bicycle parking spaces are located in front of the entrance; several parking garages are quickly accessible in the vicinity. A practical feature: the city library is closed on Mondays; however, the VHS is still accessible via the rear entrance. If you are coming to the building for the first time, it is best to orient yourself using the signage in the lobby or ask at the information desk. In the course announcements, you will find the specific room; for compact courses outside of RW21, the external course locations are clearly named, such as rooms at partner schools in Bayreuth. This ensures that from the cooking workshop to computer lessons to lectures in the seminar room, there is a suitable environment for every learning format. The good technical equipment enables hybrid scenarios and secure digital examination or counseling settings. Overall, RW21 provides the VHS Bayreuth with an infrastructural platform that combines focused learning, exchange, and well-being.

I attended ONE LECTURE and they wanted me to pay the full amount (220€) when the lady at the counter told me beforehand that if I only attend the first class and don’t go again, that automatically means they will remove me from the course! But after 1.5 months, they sent me an email telling me I have to pay THE FULL AMOUNT because I signed this paper! How to scam people 101. Don’t go for German courses there, most of the teachers aren’t even German so you will have to deal with teachers that have strong accents.

I think it's great that the VHS exists. You can still learn something even at an older age. I've already taken courses myself.👍🌞
