Maisel & Friends Beer Shop | Maisel and Friends & Maisel Weisse

The Maisel & Friends Beer Shop at Andreas-Maisel-Weg 1 in Bayreuth is the first address for anyone looking to discover, take home, or gift special beers. Located right next to the Liebesbier Restaurant & Bar and embedded in the creative brewery area of Maisel & Friends, the shop combines the best of two worlds: the brewing tradition of the Gebr. Maisel brewery, which has grown over 130 years, and the modern craft beer philosophy that Maisel & Friends has represented in Germany since the 2010s. Spanning 130 square meters, you can expect around 80 bottled beers – from classics to seasonal specialties and limited editions from partner breweries in Germany and around the world. The selection is complemented by handmade spirits, gift ideas, glassware, textiles, and coffee from the in-house Crazy Sheep Coffee Manufactory. Particularly convenient: visitor parking is available right on site, including free 20-minute short-term parking at the machine. If you appreciate advice, you are also in the right place: a dedicated beer sommelier assists with selection and shares in-depth knowledge about styles, aromas, and food pairing. This makes shopping an experience – and the perfect start to a visit to the adjacent beer experience world or the Liebesbier Urban Art Hotel.

Maisel Weisse & Maisel Weizen: The Icons from Bayreuth

When thinking of Bayreuth and beer, one cannot overlook Maisel’s Weisse. The wheat beer classic comes from the Gebr. Maisel brewery, founded in 1887 by brothers Hans and Eberhardt Maisel and now run by Jeff Maisel in the fourth generation. The portfolio surrounding Maisel’s Weisse has made the brand and the city well-known far beyond Upper Franconia. Historically, the crystal-clear variant was initially important, later the unfiltered interpretation emerged, which is now considered Maisel’s Weisse Original and became the main variety of the brewery. In the beer shop, this iconic product family plays a central role: here you will find suitable glasses, gift sets, and often seasonal additions that delight fans of the wheat style. If you are interested in the flavor spectrum, you can compare directly on site: fruity notes, clove aromas, banana hints, or the fine spice nuances that characterize a good wheat beer are excellently explainable – especially if you let yourself be guided by the beer sommelier's advice. The brand world around Maisel’s Weisse is also spatially experienceable in the area: in the interactive beer experience world just a few steps from the shop, history, technology, and craftsmanship are vividly explained – an ideal setting to understand how such different aroma profiles arise from malt, water, hops, and yeast. If you want to dive deeper, you can trace the development lines of wheat – from crystal-clear interpretations to darker, malt-focused variants – in conversation with the team. The shop itself is the perfect stage for this: you see the selection, receive background knowledge, and take home exactly what suits your taste. Thus, Maisel’s Weisse becomes more than just a product; it becomes a tangible part of Bayreuth's beer culture.

IPA & Pale Ale from Maisel & Friends: Maisel IPA, Pale Ale, and Hoppy Hell

With the founding of the Maisel & Friends brand in 2012, Jeff Maisel set a milestone for the craft beer movement in Germany. The goal was from the beginning to make the creative side of brewing visible and to show how diverse beers can be – even while adhering to the purity law. In the beer shop, this philosophy is reflected in a large selection of hop-forward styles: Pale Ale, India Pale Ale, West Coast variants, or Wheat IPA are available on the shelves depending on availability and invite sensory comparison. An advantage of the location: the proximity to the brewery workshop and the Liebesbier Restaurant & Bar, where the brewers work at the glass wall. This makes the connection between theory and practice immediately experienceable. While you select the bottled variants in the shop, you can simultaneously inform yourself about raw materials, aroma profiles, or ideal serving temperatures. The advice helps to assemble the right bottles for your own fridge or as a gift – for example, a Hoppy Hell introduction for the curious, a set of various IPAs for an aroma journey from citrus aromas to resinous herbal notes, or a combination of hop-supported and malt-focused beers for food pairing experiments. Limited special brews are also regularly part of the selection: the team highlights attention-grabbing new products, points out small batches, and explains for which occasions the individual beers are suitable. If you enjoy pale ale-typical freshness, you can reliably find suitable Maisel & Friends Pale Ales on the shelf; IPA fans can choose from fruity-bitter interpretations or classic West Coast styles depending on their taste. Thus, the beer shop becomes a compass in the diversity of the craft beer world – with a clear orientation towards quality, craftsmanship, and willingness to enjoy.

Enjoy Alcohol-Free: Maisel Alcohol-Free and Maisel IPA Alcohol-Free in the Shop

Alcohol-free beers have evolved from being a mere alternative for drivers to a distinct, flavorfully exciting category. The Gebr. Maisel brewery set early signs here: as early as 2000, Maisel’s Weisse Alcohol-Free complemented the wheat portfolio and established itself as an option for those who prefer full flavor with less alcohol. In the Maisel & Friends Beer Shop, you will now find several alcohol-free alternatives that cater to different preferences – including the Maisel & Friends IPA Alcohol-Free. This combines typical IPA aromas with moderate bitterness, making it an excellent refreshment after sports, a drink with light meals, or a flavorful accompaniment when one wants to enjoy consciously alcohol-free. The advice in the shop supports the selection: which style suits barbecues, which goes with pasta or mild cheese, which aromas harmonize with dessert? If you are newly discovering the category, you can start with a mixed tasting package that combines alcohol-free wheat and hop specialties. Alcohol-free sets are also a good choice for hosts to offer all guests a variety of alternatives. In conversation in the shop, you will learn how alcohol is gently removed and what role hop varieties or cold hopping play in the aroma profile. Convenient for planning is the daily opening of the shop: this allows for spontaneous restocking or assembling a gift for the next visit. Short-term parking directly in front of the door makes a quick stop easier, while longer stays can be combined with a tour or a visit to Liebesbier. Alcohol-free here is not a compromise but an independent world of enjoyment.

At the same time, they experience how creative brewing is done today in the Maisel & Friends brewery workshop. The area is also a meeting point for tastings, seminars, experience tours, and events that bring the topic of beer to life. Awards as a visitor attraction underline the claim to make beer culture experienceable. A great selection of beers, naturally with a focus on their own brews, but also many really exciting bottlings that you rarely find in a shop. Since there are often limited editions, it's worth visiting regularly. On top of that, Alex is a really helpful person who always has a good tip to offer. Always a pleasure.
