Beer Garden, Location, and Directions in Merkendorf
A central feature of the Brewery Wagner Merkendorf is the beer garden located directly behind the property. The official description emphasizes that it opens in spring with the first rays of sunshine, is away from traffic noise, and is situated under shady trees. This combination makes the location particularly attractive for many excursionists: you sit in the greenery but still receive the complete offering of a brewery inn with kitchen and its own beer. Additionally, the website points out that there is a children's playground right next to the beer garden. This makes the place interesting not only for couples or regulars but also for families who want to combine a relaxed meal with some movement for children. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/der-biergarten/))
For directions, the location in Merkendorf is important. The address Pointstraße 1 clearly places the brewery in the district of Merkendorf of the municipality of Memmelsdorf. Regional tourism and beer trails also list the location as a stop in Merkendorf and categorize it within the Franconian brewery landscape. A hiking trail around the Bamberg beer culture explicitly names Brewery Wagner as a destination in Merkendorf; at the same time, the surroundings are described as a region with several brewery inns. This indicates that the location fits particularly well into beer hikes, cycling tours, and regional round trips. Those arriving by car benefit from the clear local address; those walking or cycling will find a classic Franconian stop with plenty of excursion potential. Types of Beer and Brewing Art from Brewery Wagner
The range of Brewery Wagner Merkendorf clearly shows how broad the local brewing art is. On the page about the types of beer, Helles, unfiltered lager, Märzen, Kupferstich red beer, festival beer, anniversary beer 850 years Merkendorf, Pils, Heller Bock, Dunkler Bock, Wagner Weisse, and Richard Wagner Dunkel are presented. For each beer, the brewery provides original gravity, alcohol content, and a brief flavor classification. This covers a spectrum from light everyday beers to characterful specialties. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/unsere-biersorten/))
Particularly interesting for inquiries about Pils, lager, or bock beer is the seasonal and regional variety. The Pils is described as one of the most popular varieties, while the light and dark Bock are brewed for the Christmas season and made available from mid-November. The Wagner Weisse is explained as a top-fermented, yeast-cloudy wheat beer in bottle fermentation, while Richard Wagner Dunkel is described as a fixed part of the range that emerged from an earlier brewing occasion. The anniversary beer for 850 years Merkendorf stands out because it is described as an unfiltered, yeast-cloudy cellar beer with aromatic hops from Spalt and Hallertau. This profile is complemented by an official note on the bronze medal for the Pils at the European Beer Star 2017, which further strengthens the quality perception of the house. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/unsere-biersorten/))
Franconian Cuisine and Kirchweih Specialties
In addition to beer, the kitchen is a second major anchor point of Brewery Wagner Merkendorf. The inn advertises a cozy atmosphere where one can stop for lunch or just for snacks. The website mentions Franconian roasts of pork, beef, veal, or game prepared in grandmother's style, along with hearty snacks and a daily special that visibly aligns with the regional inn culture. The examples for the weekly menu show how classic and down-to-earth the offering is intended: Leberkäse with fried potatoes, meat patties, roasts and dumplings, fish dishes on Fridays, as well as roasts until early afternoon on Sundays and public holidays. Therefore, those searching for Franconian inn culture will not only get a beer here but a complete culinary picture of the region. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/die-gastwirtschaft/))
The brewery also provides concrete points of reference for inquiries related to bock beer tapping, Kirchweih, and seasonal events. A current post about the Merkendorf Kirchweih 2026 lists Kirchweih specialties for the beer garden or, depending on the weather, for the inn. Among other things, beef with horseradish and dumplings, bock roast with red cabbage and dumplings, venison stew, veal roast, Schäuferla, duck leg, venison roast, duck breast, suckling pig, and wild boar roast are mentioned. This clearly shows that the brewery enhances its festivals with culinary offerings and actively engages with seasonal occasions. For guests, this means: those who come during Kirchweih time will experience not only the normal inn operation but often a significantly expanded Franconian festival offering. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/merkendorfer-kerwa-2026/))
Sources, Direct Sales, and Services
The Brewery Wagner Merkendorf sees itself not only as a place for on-site consumption but also as a source for home use and for celebrations. On the sources page, the brewery mentions a beer sale on-site, where beers are available in 0.5-liter bottles; Pils, lager, and seasonally also light bock are additionally bottled in 0.33-liter bottles. For celebrations, the house offers environmentally friendly reusable barrels in 10, 15, and 20 liters, as well as a decorative 5-liter party can as a gift idea. Additionally, non-alcoholic beverages and the extra service of providing tables, benches without backs, jugs, glasses, and taps for rent are available. This makes the brewery a practical address for family celebrations, club parties, and smaller events. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/vertrieb/))
The regional character of the brewery is also evident in its distribution. According to the website, the beers can not only be purchased directly on-site but also through numerous inns and via home delivery in the Bamberg district. The brewery also mentions well-stocked beverage specialty stores such as REWE, EDEKA, Logo, Markgrafen, Fränky, Fristo, and Getränke Ultsch, as well as the online shop of Bierothek as further sources. This makes the brand's reach visible without losing the local connection. For inquiries about offered services, this mix of direct sales, delivery, glass and barrel service, and retail is particularly relevant because it shows that the brewery is much more than just a classic inn. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/vertrieb/))
Contact, Address, and Practical Information
If you want to contact Brewery Wagner Merkendorf directly, you can find the most important data in the imprint. There, Brewery Wagner GmbH is listed with the address Pointstraße 1, 96117 Merkendorf. Additionally, the phone number is 09542/620, the fax number is 09542/650, and the email address is info@wagner-merkendorf.de. This information is particularly important for reservations, which are explicitly only accepted by phone in current posts. So if you are planning a visit, a pickup, or a celebration, reaching for the phone is the quickest and most reliable way. The website makes it clear that personal coordination and direct contact still play a significant role. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/impressum/?utm_source=openai))
Another practical point is accommodation. The inn page explicitly states that no overnight accommodations are offered in the house. At the same time, the brewery points out that it is happy to arrange accommodation in the village upon request. For excursionists, this is a helpful hint, as it allows for planning the visit as a day trip without having to leave the entire region. Combined with the beer garden, Franconian cuisine, direct sales, and the location in the beer country around Bamberg, a site emerges that is particularly attractive for day guests, cyclists, hikers, and regional connoisseurs. Those specifically looking for a vacation at Brewery Wagner Merkendorf should therefore think more about a longer excursion in the Memmelsdorf area than about a classic hotel offer directly at the house. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/die-gastwirtschaft/))
Brewing Tradition and Regional Significance
Brewery Wagner Merkendorf also emphasizes its connection to brewing tradition content-wise. On the page about beer production, the house explains that beer is one of the oldest popular beverages and its history can be traced back to ancient times. The Bavarian Purity Law of April 23, 1516 is also mentioned there, which limits production to barley malt, hops, and water and is described as the first food law in the world. Although this page mainly provides general information about the history of beer, it fits very well with the brewery's self-image: it is about craftsmanship, continuity, and regional identity, not interchangeable mass goods. ([wagner-merkendorf.de](https://www.wagner-merkendorf.de/die-bierherstellung/))
Regionally, Merkendorf is a place with visible brewery culture. Tourist routes and beer country portals list Brewery Wagner as an important stop and categorize it within the Franconian beer landscape. Together with the inn, the beer garden, the seasonal festival program, and direct sales, a location emerges that is relevant for many different search intentions: people search for opening hours, menu, beer garden, Pils, lager, bock beer tapping, phone number, or takeaway, and these topics are well covered on the website. This also explains why the brewery is so present in reviews and regional searches: it offers not only beer but a complete, lively snapshot of Franconian everyday and festival culture.
Took me ages to get here but I'll return again soon. Two great breweries in one village and so easy to get to from Bamberg, too. Wagner had some great beers on tap and their mixed meat plate saved the day as if we'd waited until dinner at nearby Hummel, we might not have made it! If the Bock is on, go for it.

Very authentic German brewery. I unfortunately didn't find their Keller beer or Dunkel as good as other breweries, but I enjoyed the atmosphere.
