The cathedral, the treasure chamber, and the cloister offer outstanding cultural-historical as well as moving religious experiences. In 90 minutes, you will experience highlights of European art history. The cathedral was built by the canonized imperial couple Henry and Cunigunde in the early 11th century, burned down several times, and was rebuilt for the second time between 1200 and 1237. The architecture fascinates with its clear form language. The famous and nameless Bamberg Rider and the sculptures of the cathedral are unparalleled in Germany: the French influences are unmistakable! None other than Tilman Riemenschneider created the imperial tomb, and Veit Stoß carved the Marian altar. Through the Gothic cloister, you will enter the diocesan museum, which is equipped with high-quality sculptures. The most significant textiles worldwide, such as the 11th-century star cloak - a masterpiece of medieval textile art, the preserved vestments of Pope Clement II, as well as the largest surviving Ottonian cross are highlights of our museum. Cathedral. Treasure. Cloister – Exciting. Inspiring. Tangible.
