The play takes place in the cinema hall, on the screen, and in the courtyard of the Odeon cinema. The dreamy Cecilia, chronically job-hunting and striving for every penny, tries to keep herself and her unemployed, complaining husband afloat. Her only refuge from the dreary reality: excessive cinema visits. In her heart's film: “Purple Rose of Cairo,” she dreams of the beautiful life and her hero: Tom Baxter. One day he notices her romantic longings and steps out of the cinema screen. With his escape into reality, he not only puts Cecilia on new paths but also brings the confused supporting roles of the film into heavy conflicts. What will happen to the untouchable dream world? Who is the most important now? And how should it end happily? In his 1985 film (starring Mia Farrow and Jeff Daniels), Woody Allen created a witty web of his protagonists.
