A Fairytale Stage Experience Between Puppets and Rose Garden

When the curtain rises on Friday, November 13, 2026, at the Bamberg Puppet Theatre, a journey into the world of the Brothers Grimm begins. Sleeping Beauty combines classic fairytale storytelling with artistic puppet manipulation and leads the audience into the historic rooms of the Neue Residenz, through the court and up to the rose garden.

Grimm's Fairy Tales as Living Puppet Art

The staging based on the well-known fairy tale classic comes from the pen of Marec Bela Steffens, directed by Maria Sebald. Since July 2021, the production has delighted with a captivating dramaturgy that transforms familiar motifs into an unusual spatial experience. Not only is the plot at the center of attention, but also the interplay of puppet theatre, architecture, and atmosphere.

From the Stage into the Rooms of the Neue Residenz

The set design of Sleeping Beauty extends far beyond the actual theatre stage. The performance begins in the Bamberg Puppet Theatre and then opens the view to the Neue Residenz and the court. Historical backdrops, the unique acoustics of the rooms, and the movement of the figures combine to create a performance where theatrical atmosphere and city history meet.

A Family Experience with a Fairytale Finale

After about 60 minutes, the story finds its happy ending in the rose garden. There, the fairy tale unfolds its poetic effect: roses, courtly scenery, and the artistic acting of the puppets give the finale a radiant, almost dreamlike atmosphere. The production is recommended for children aged five and older as well as for adults who wish to experience the Grimm classic in a special form.

Conclusion: Fairytale Magic Live in Bamberg

Sleeping Beauty promises an extraordinary stage experience for the whole family. The combination of puppet play, historical architecture, and fairytale dramaturgy makes the performance a charming journey of discovery through Bamberg. Anyone wanting to experience theatre art with atmosphere, movement, and a special venue should not miss this family experience.
