Sleeping Beauty: A Fairytale Experience for the Whole Family

When the curtain rises at the Bamberg Puppet Theater, a journey through the world of the most famous fairytale by the Brothers Grimm begins. Sleeping Beauty combines artistic puppet theater with a fairytale route through Bamberg and takes the audience from the stage through the rooms of the New Residence and the court to the rose garden.

A Grimm Classic in Poetic Staging

The version by Marec Bela Steffens tells the story of enchantment, danger, and redemption with great clarity and an entertaining narrative pace. The staging by Maria Sebald from 2021 relies on the special magic of puppet theater: figures, strings, light, and movement transform the stage into a lively fairytale space.

From the Theater Stage to the Rose Garden

Particularly attractive is the dramaturgical path through historical Bamberg spaces. The stage action opens up to an atmospheric search for traces through the New Residence and the court before the plot finds its long-awaited happy end in the rose garden. Thus, the stage experience combines theatrical atmosphere with the cultural character of the city.

Puppetry with Sensual Theater Atmosphere

The concentrated acoustics of the theater, the precise acting of the moving figures, and the play of light and shadow create a fairytale mood. Between tension and tenderness, a staging emerges that captivates young audiences just as much as adults who wish to rediscover the Grimm classic.

A Family Outing with Cultural Added Value

Sleeping Beauty serves as a shared cultural experience for families, residents of Bamberg, and guests of the city. The combination of a classic fairytale, historic surroundings, and artisan-quality puppetry makes the performance a special form of stage art.
