Fairy Tale Magic on the Puppet Stage: Sleeping Beauty in Bamberg

When the curtain rises on October 17, 2026, at the Bamberg Puppet Theater, a fairy tale journey through the world of the Brothers Grimm begins. Sleeping Beauty combines classical puppet play with the historical spaces of Bamberg and takes the audience from the stage through the New Residence and the court life to the rose garden.

A Grimm Classic in Poetic Staging

The text by Marec Bela Steffens transforms the well-known fairy tale material into an entertaining stage experience for the whole family. The production by Maria Sebald has been shown since July 2021 and relies on the special expressiveness of puppet theater: figures, movements, stage design, and lighting create a concentrated theatrical atmosphere that brings the fairy tale narrative to life.

From the Theater Space into the Historical Backdrops

The dramaturgy opens the stage space and makes Bamberg itself a part of the narrative. The performance begins in the Bamberg Puppet Theater, moves through the rooms of the New Residence and the court life, and finds its happy ending in the rose garden. Thus, acting artistry is combined with city history and an extraordinary tour through significant cultural sites.

Family-Friendly Puppet Theater

With a runtime of about 60 minutes and no intermission, Sleeping Beauty is particularly suitable for children aged five and over and for adults who appreciate classic fairy tales, puppet theater, and lovingly crafted stage art. The audience's reaction arises from the immediate magic of the performance: small movements carry great weight, while the familiar story allows for wonder and shared experiences.
