Hansel and Gretel: A Fairy-Tale Stage Experience at the Bamberg Puppet Theater

When the forest darkens under stage light and two children search for their way amidst hunger, fear, and hope, a magical theater experience for the whole family begins on November 14, 2026. The Bamberg Puppet Theater brings the fairy tale play Hansel and Gretel to the stage at 4:00 PM – a child-friendly production with a duration of 60 minutes and no intermission.

A Fairy Tale Between Shadows and Optimism

The story takes Hansel and Gretel from the humble home of the broom maker Andres into the night forest. In search of berries for dinner, the siblings fall into the clutches of a witch who holds Gretel as a maid and wants to fatten Hansel. With courage, cleverness, and sibling solidarity, the children turn the dangerous game to their advantage.

Puppets, Set Design, and Theater Atmosphere

The production transforms the Brothers Grimm's tale into a concentrated stage experience for young audiences aged four and up. The puppet play employs precise character handling, clear scene changes, and an atmosphere in which the dark forest, the witch's house, and the childish imagination take shape immediately. Lighting, acoustics, and set design condense the dramaturgy into a fairy-tale journey.

A Gentle Reevaluation of the Family Story

In this version, the parents do not appear as heartless abandoners, but as people who act out of despair. The mother remains a loving figure – a dramatic accent that reweights the familiar tale and directs attention to poverty, care, and family cohesion. The text was recorded by students from the E.T.A.-Hoffmann-Gymnasium Bamberg.

For Children Aged Four and Up

With a running time of about 60 minutes and no intermission, the performance is particularly suitable for families with younger children. The story combines suspense with a reconciling perspective: Hansel and Gretel outsmart the witch, are found by their parents, and return home with the treasures from the witch's house.

Conclusion: The Bamberg Puppet Theater promises an atmospheric fairy tale play that combines acting artistry, character handling, and child-friendly dramaturgy. Those who want to experience the magic of theater live should secure their tickets in advance for Saturday, November 14, 2026.
