A Forest Full of Passion and Magic

At the center of the production are two couples, whose feelings are thrown out of balance. Helena loves Demetrius, Demetrius desires Hermia, and Hermia loves Lysander. Shakespeare's Comedy Between Dream and Reality

Shakespeare connects multiple plot levels in this classic: the courtly splendor of Athens, the passionate unrest of the young lovers, and the mysterious world of Oberon and Titania. The dramaturgy thrives on the constant shift between romantic enchantment and pointed comedy. Particularly the craftsmen, who are rehearsing a play in the forest, provide a humorous perspective on acting itself.

Puppet Theater with Atmospheric Stage Art

The Bamberg Puppet Theater transforms Shakespeare's enchanted forest into a stage for precise puppet manipulation, fairy-tale theater atmosphere, and lively scene changes. Puck, Titania, Oberon, and the craftsman Knot encounter each other in a stage performance that connects confusion, love's happiness, and comical surprises together. Knot with the donkey head, mistaken by Titania for a love god, is among the iconic images of this comedy.
