The cathedral, treasury, and cloister offer outstanding cultural-historical as well as moving religious experiences. In 90 minutes, you will experience highlights of European art history. The cathedral was built by the canonized imperial couple Henry and Kunigunde in the early 11th century, burned down several times, and was rebuilt a second time between 1200 and 1237. The architecture impresses with its clear form language. The famous and nameless Bamberg Horseman and the sculptures of the cathedral are unparalleled in Germany: the French influences are unmistakable! None other than Tilman Riemenschneider created the imperial tomb, Veit Stoß carved the altar of Mary. Through the Gothic cloister, you enter the diocesan museum, which is equipped with high-quality sculptures. The world's most significant textiles such as the preserved star mantle from the 11th century – a masterpiece of medieval textile art, the preserved vestments of Pope Clement II, and the largest preserved Ottonian cross are the highlights of our museum. Cathedral. Treasury. Cloister – Exciting. Inspiring. Experienceable.
