Hansel and Gretel: Fairy Tale Magic for the Whole Family

When the curtain rises at the Bamberg Puppet Theater, an exciting family experience begins with children's laughter, wonder, and a magical journey through the mysterious forest. The child-friendly fairy tale play Hansel and Gretel will be performed on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 4:00 PM in Bamberg and is aimed at children aged 4 and up.

A Fairy Tale Full of Suspense and Hope

Hansel and Gretel are sent into the woods by their mother to gather berries for dinner. As night falls, the siblings encounter a dangerous witch. Hansel is to be fattened up while Gretel must serve as a maid. With courage, unity, and clever action, the children outsmart the witch and find their way back to their parents.

Child-Friendly and Sensitively Crafted

The production is based on the opera Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck and tells the fairy tale in a child-friendly version. The parents act out of despair and are not portrayed as evil step-parents. This creates an age-appropriate learning experience about solidarity, courage, self-confidence, and the power of joint solutions.

Puppets, Imagination, and Learning Fun

The puppet theater provides children with a special access to classic stories. Moving figures, the fairy tale plot, and the concentrated atmosphere in the theater hall promote imagination, attention, and language development. With a playing time of about 60 minutes and no break during the performance, the experience remains manageable even for younger children.

A Family Afternoon with Lasting Impressions

The Bamberg Puppet Theater at Untere Sandstraße 30 offers a protected indoor space for shared experiences. Families follow the story closely and experience how Hansel and Gretel do not give up despite danger. The performance connects culture, emotional development, and time spent together in a child-friendly way.
