For five years, the universal artist E. T. A. Hoffmann (1776–1822) lived in Bamberg. He continues to shape the city to this day. The Bamberg "Years of Martyrdom" also shaped him. Here he took the step from composer to writer. Bamberg is celebrating Hoffmann's 250th birthday with a comprehensive cultural program. The Bamberg State Library is showing the exhibition E. T. A. HOFFMANN GLOBAL. BORDER CROSSINGS OF FANTASY from September 14 to December 5, 2026, on the occasion of the anniversary.
