Organ Concert Transformation Opens the Semester in Bamberg
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, University Music Director Wilhelm Schmidt will open the new semester with the organ concert Transformation at the St. Martin Church in Bamberg. It starts at 5 PM. Admission is free.
Sound Colors Between Fantasy, Chorale, and Variation
The program focuses on different forms of musical transformation. New sound forms emerge from individual motifs, familiar chorale melodies receive a different coloring, and historical themes unfold in varying musical contexts. The organ showcases its exceptional tonal range – from contemplative passages to grand Romantic climaxes.
Works by Franck, Baußnern, Türk, and Liszt
The program features works by César Franck, Waldemar von Baußnern, Hans Peter Türk, and Franz Liszt. Franck's expressive language, Baußnern's artful chorale arrangements, Türk's variations on a theme by Johannes Honterus, and Liszt's intense engagement with Bach's music combine for a diverse concert experience.
Historical Church Space, Intense Live Atmosphere
St. Martin am Grünen Markt, with its Baroque architecture and special acoustics, provides an impressive setting for the concert experience. The reverberation gives the organ stops spatial depth, while the musical synchronization of voices and the differentiated registration make the subtle transitions between tradition and renewal audible.
Experience Music and Support Culture
All interested individuals are invited to discover the diverse facets of musical transformation live. Admission is free. Donations for the Friends of the University Choir and University Orchestra are welcome.
The audience can expect a concentrated organ concert with spiritual depth, romantic richness of sound, and artful variation. Those who wish to experience the organ music of Franck, Baußnern, Türk, and Liszt in a historical Bamberg church setting will find a special opening to the winter semester here.
