Candlelight, Clarinet and Sound Colors between Bach and Jazz

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Litzendorf Candlelight Concerts, the St. Wenzeslaus parish church invites you to a festive concert evening on October 18, 2026. Under the title Pure Joy – From Bach to Jazz, classical masterpieces, romantic sound language, and jazzy rhythms merge with the warm glow of countless candles.

A Jubilee Evening with Musical Depth

The program ranges from Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Robert Schumann, and Francisco Tárrega, and further to Henry Mancini, Astor Piazzolla, Edward Elgar, and Duke Ellington. At the center stands Mozart's Clarinet Quintet in A Major, KV 581, a work of exquisite chamber musical balance and extraordinary melodic brilliance.

Günther Forstmaier and the Bamberg String Quartet

Günther Forstmaier, principal clarinetist of the Bamberg Symphony, joins the Bamberg String Quartet. The ensemble promises a precise synchronization of clarinet lines and string sounds: delicate dialogues, warm legato arcs, and contrasting transitions between Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Jazz. The evening will be guided by Karlheinz Busch.

Music in Baroque Candlelight

The St. Wenzeslaus parish church is regarded as a Baroque jewel of Franconia and was built between 1715 and 1718 according to plans by Johann Dientzenhofer. In this special acoustics, chamber music unfolds with immediate impact. Candlelight, church space, and differentiated sound create a concentrated live atmosphere, where every clarinet phrase and every string impulse finds its space.

A Concert Experience between Contemplation and Energy

The Litzendorf Candlelight Concerts combine musical expertise with an extraordinary stage performance without the classical concert distance. The audience's mood thrives on intimacy with the ensemble, the shifts between epochs, and the tension between mental focus and rhythmic energy. The leap from Bach to Piazzolla and Ellington especially opens the evening to surprising sound colors.

Conclusion: An Evening that Resonates

Visitors can expect a festive anniversary concert featuring renowned musicians, a versatile program, and the unmistakable atmosphere of the Dientzenhofer church. Anyone wanting to experience classical music by candlelight, Mozart in chamber music intimacy, and the connection from Baroque to Jazz live should not miss this concert evening in Litzendorf.
