Instrumental music for the 70th birthday of Iris ter Schiphorst
On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the International Artists' House Villa Concordia in Bamberg will transform into a focused sound space for contemporary music. The Zafraan Ensemble will perform an anniversary concert in honor of the composer Iris ter Schiphorst, whose 70th birthday in 2026 provides the occasion for a special concert series.
Composition between precision and tonal tension
Iris ter Schiphorst is one of the important female composers of contemporary music in Europe. Her works open up differentiated soundscapes in which orchestration, dynamics, and rhythmic synchronization develop an intense musical dramaturgy. The Zafraan Ensemble presents this instrumental music with great precision and a clearly defined stage performance in the historic rooms of Villa Concordia.
A special place on the Regnitz
Villa Concordia combines baroque architecture with a vibrant international art scene. In this environment, the concert receives a special atmosphere: the direct sound, proximity to the ensemble, and the characteristic acoustics of the artists' house create a concentrated concert experience beyond the routine of large concert halls.
Return to a formative workplace
The concert series also returns to the place from which Iris ter Schiphorst worked during her Villa Concordia scholarship in 2015/16. Thus, the evening connects musical presence with an important chapter of her artistic biography. Additionally, a print publication with a sound carrier is being created at Wolke Verlag. This project also involves Dirk von Lowtzow, the frontman of the band Tocotronic.
Free admission for an extraordinary concert experience
Admission to the anniversary concert is free. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and the concert begins at 7:00 PM. The building is not accessible.
Anyone looking for contemporary instrumental music, a differentiated ensemble sound, and a special live atmosphere will experience an evening with musical depth and historical resonance in Bamberg. Reserve your place and experience Iris ter Schiphorst's compositions live with the Zafraan Ensemble.
